The First Prenatal Visit
I had my first prenatal appointment this morning. James came with me and thank goodness. I think all of the good news, bad news, good news, bad news, good news has worn on me. I was looking forward to this appointment until this morning. Then the fear kicked in. Luckily, James was just in time to help me figure out the new information sheet that I had to fill out and calm me down a bit.
So, since we’ve had all of these appointments, we didn’t do a sonogram or an ultrasound today. My doctor did a full checkup of me and everything seems good. I’ve lost a pound or two again but that is normal in the beginning. My big belly is mostly due to bloating and gas (tmi?) and I have to make sure that I don’t consistently lose weight. That shouldn’t be a problem based on my crazy appetite lately.
The doctor’s office also gave me my first diaper bag. It contained the following:
– Fischer Price Games to Grow By Catalog
– A Nursing the First Two Months Pamphlet
– A March of Dimes Pamphlet
– Enfamil Coupons
– An invitation to Enfamil’s family Beginnings – which I’m already signed up for
– A sample packet of Huggies Diapers
– A new copy of What to Expect when You’re Expecting
– A pamphlet regarding Cystic Fibrosis Carrier Screening
– A sample of Expecta DHA supplement for pregnant and nursing mothers
– An 8 oz. sample of Enfamil Lipil with Iron (formula)
– Two reusable Ice Packs
– A pamphlet regarding Mercury in Fish and Shellfish
– A flyer of medications that are safe during pregnancy
– As Your Baby Grows – a magazine showing the development of baby from conception to birth
– A Pampers.Com Welcome packet
– 3 Lamaze Pergnancy magazines about the first and second trimesters
– A pamphlet on Morning Sickness
– A pamphlet on pregnancy for the mother-to-be
I leave for the hospital in about 10 minutes to get some labwork done and then I work from 2-6. I’ll update tonite, maybe on baby names too. I’m feeling much better today than yesterday, and I’m even in a better mood. Something about carrying in a diaper bag is pretty neat. I’m really starting to look forward to bringing our little person home – or at least being able to feel it in me. Right now it all seems so foreign. Like I’m dreaming it’s happening and imagining everything.
