A Friend of a Friend is a Friend Indeed
The problem with the world is that we draw the circle of our family too small. — Mother Teresa
Leaving Maryland was hard for me. I had never lived outside of that state and just about everyone I knew lived there. I am a creature of habit. I went to work, I went home, and that was about it. Outside of work and family, there were few other relationships that took any of my time. Or for that matter, my husband’s. We hadn’t seeked out couples our age to spend time with, he didn’t have guy pals and I didn’t have gal pals. We were kind of eachother’s everything. Not neccessarily as it should be.
Leaving Alaska was almost harder for me in some ways. There I had established friendships, traditions of our own, I was “Auntie” Melanie and my time was not only spent at work. I spent a lot of time at church, with friends, with children. When I said goodbye, I was very aware that these relationships were something I’d really never established before (Mama J, if you are reading… you know you are my Maryland bestie right?). I also knew that my friends were quite possibly friends who I may not see for many years. What I really cherish is that those friends I fully expect to still be my friends many years from now. What a blessing.
When we got to Houston, we didn’t know anyone. Not an understatement. We found out shortly after that my husband had an aunt in a nearby town, but we didn’t really know her. I commented on a post on Facebook of an Alaska friend, whose cousin IN HOUSTON replied back. It didn’t take long to establish that we wanted to meet and after meeting (despite the fact that we’ve only gotten together three times I think) I consider her a friend. She is part of my God-Family and a blessing indeed to me!
I really think it would do us all good to consider that whether our earth families have any connections to eachother that we can prove in a geneology study… or not… GOD is our Father. He is the beginning and the end. Which means… we’re all family! Don’t like that thought… how many of us don’t have at least one family member that when we think of them, the nicest thing we can do initially is sigh…? It’s like that… We’re all family. For better or worse. Love one another and all that!
Without further ado, my new-since-i-moved friend introduced me to an incredible Christian company who makes really nice products. If you haven’t already, you should check it out! Thirty One Gifts! I got to see some products first hand and they are pretty neat! Not to mention, the company gives women the opportunity to work towards being a Proverbs 31 woman who helps provide for her household. Not too shabby! Enjoy!
