Preschool Homeschool : The Letter E
We opted to homeschool instead of enrolling our son in standard Pre-K. I am sharing with you some of the activities we did to learn about the letter E. Whether you homeschool or not, these are short and sweet ways to reinforce letter learning.
On our “E Day,” we had a rough start. We schooled in jammies and took many breaks. It was a long day. But, this is part of why we choose to homeschool – flexibility. The lessons were learned, at our own pace.
Walphabet’s ABCs Song : We always start with an ABC song. It is something that they can get excited about, since they generally know the tune, and that everyone can enjoy.
Highlight-a-Letter by Babbling Abby. I use these for my oldest (4), with the more complicated page (including tracing and printing space) on the first day and the less complicated one for review on the second. My youngest (2), colors on her own so that I can assist her brother with this.
My daughter got an Emily Elizabeth coloring sheet, today. Miss Elaina (Daniel Tiger) & Evi (Mike the Knight) are other options. The E is for Exercise Coloring Page was a great hint to what we were going to do as activities for this day, though neither of my kids actually colored it.
The Home Teacher’s Exercise ABC’s were GREAT! I printed them out, cut them carefully and laminated them. I punched a hole in the top left corner of each card and then put them onto a key ring.
Because E is for Exercise, we did all of the exercises in the stack. Okay, I admit, THEY did, and I directed. They LOVED it! Look at those muscles!
BOOKS AND FOOD: We had Eggs and Ham for lunch, after reading Green Eggs and Ham. We also read Elsa from The Ice Box Set. We were going to have Egg Salad for Lunch and Edamame with dinner. However, we are picky Eaters here… so I figured Eating anything was close enough!
Starfall’s Letter E Activity : These great, flash, interactive activities are a wonderful and FREE resource, as well! The kids really enjoy them! The whole set is available in the Google Play store for Android, Amazon App Store or iTunes!
The kids really do enjoy the Starfall activities! It has worked as a great final review each day, and a quiet moment before free play.
Finally, we hung the Letter E on the wall, to join A, B, C, D, H & T.
