Preschool Homeschool : The Letter I
We opted to homeschool instead of enrolling our son in standard Pre-K. I am sharing with you some of the activities we did to learn about the letter I. Whether you homeschool or not, these are short and sweet ways to reinforce letter learning.
We read I’m Dirty, Inside Freight Train & I Spy Butterflies
Walphabet’s ABCs Song : We always start with an ABC song. It is something that they can get excited about, since they generally know the tune, and that everyone can enjoy.
I poured Pickling Salt into a cookie sheet and shook it a bit to make it flat. (You can use whatever salt you want… or sand… or whatever…) Then, I drew an example and the kids practiced “writing” the letter “I”. My son (4) especially loves this activity. My daughter (2) enjoys it too. Fun sensory play! An added bonus was that my son demonstrated his recognition of quite a few letters!
Highlight-a-Letter by Babbling Abby. I use these for my oldest (4), with the more complicated page (including tracing and printing space) on the first day and the less complicated one for review on the second.
My youngest (2), colors on her own so that I can assist her brother with this. She got Iridessa (Tinkerbell) & Izzy (Neverland Pirates) coloring sheets, today.
We did the I is for Ice Cream craft from Play and Learn with Dana.
The kids had fun choosing which pre-cut (by me) ice cream scoops they wanted to use and where to place them.
This one was super cute!
We were going to have an Ice Cream Snack to celebrate learning about the Letter I. However, I messed up and didn’t actually have ice cream on hand, so I promised the kids an Ice Cream date this weekend.
Starfall’s Letter I Activity : These great, flash, interactive activities are a wonderful and FREE resource, as well! The kids really enjoy them! The whole set is available in the Google Play store for Android, Amazon App Store or iTunes!
The kids really do enjoy the Starfall activities! It has worked as a great final review each day, and a quiet moment before free play.
Finally, we hung the Letter F on the wall, to join A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H & T.
