Preschool Homeschool : The Letter F
We opted to homeschool instead of enrolling our son in standard Pre-K. I am sharing with you some of the activities we did to learn about the letter F. Whether you homeschool or not, these are short and sweet ways to reinforce letter learning.
We read Fast Food, Bear’s New Friend & The Foot Book.
Walphabet’s ABCs Song : We always start with an ABC song. It is something that they can get excited about, since they generally know the tune, and that everyone can enjoy.
Today, we tried something different. I poured Pickling Salt into a cookie sheet and shook it a bit to make it flat. (I only used pickling salt because I was running low on regular. We do what we can with what we have… )
Then, I drew an example and the kids practiced “writing” the letter “F” with their fingers! My son (4) especially loved this activity. He didn’t even make a mess. My daughter (2) enjoyed saying, “One line up, two lines across…” but didn’t really draw any letters. Fun sensory play!
Highlight-a-Letter by Babbling Abby I use these for my oldest (4), with the more complicated page (including tracing and printing space) on the first day and the less complicated one for review on the second. My youngest (2), colors on her own so that I can assist her brother with this.
Coloring Pages: My daughter got Fairies (Disney) today. Miss Frizzle (Magic Schoolbus) is another fun option. My son isn’t interested in coloring, this week.
We did the F is for Frog craft from Crystal&Co. We didn’t use sticker dots (didn’t have any) and I really loved that the googly eyes I had on hand were sticker ones!!! My son opted to remove his frog’s tongue. The end results were adorable. This craft, and others on Crystal&Co’s site are fantastic!!
Because F is for Farm, I prepared some puzzles from ABCHomeschool4me.com’s Farm Pack. I printed the puzzles, laminated them and cut them out. I thought that the lamination would ensure they would last.
My daughter (2) found it very frustrating and stormed off from her “lessons.” My son (4) enjoyed the more complicated farm puzzle very much. He was very excited when he completed it. He seemed to consider the slipperiness an added challenge. Phew!
Starfall’s Letter F Activity : These great, flash, interactive activities are a wonderful and FREE resource, as well! The kids really enjoy them! The whole set is available in the Google Play store for Android, Amazon App Store or iTunes!
The kids really do enjoy the Starfall activities! It has worked as a great final review each day, and a quiet moment before free play.
Finally, we hung the Letter F on the wall, to join A, B, C, D, E, H & T.
We had Fish Sticks and Fruit for lunch and Fajitas for dinner.
