Preschool Homeschool : The Letter G

We opted to homeschool instead of enrolling our son in standard Pre-K.  I am sharing with you some of the activities we did to learn about the letter G.  Whether you homeschool or not, these are short and sweet ways to reinforce letter learning.

Our day actually started off by Going out and getting Groceries.  While I drove, I asked the kids to tell me what things they saw that started with the G sound.  GrassGreen things, Ground… We also talked about what letter different things they saw started with.  Every experience can be a learning one.

We read Arlo Needs GlassesThe Giant Hug & Curious George.   Green Eggs and Ham and Good Night Gorilla are other great choices.  Arlo Needs Glasses is really cute and interactive.  There are pairs of glasses to try on and pop-up style pages.  They really enjoyed it.

Walphabet’s ABCs Song :  We always start with an ABC song.  It is something that they can get excited about, since they generally know the tune, and that everyone can enjoy.

Highlight-a-Letter by Babbling Abby.  I use these for my oldest (4), with the more complicated page (including tracing and printing space) on the first day and the less complicated one for review on the second.

My youngest (2), colors on her own so that I can assist her brother with this.  I printed out Golias (Big Big Friends) & Galahad (Mike the Knight) coloring sheets, today.  Curious George is another option especially if you read the book).

Today, we made a G is for Grapes craft.  I cut out the letter G in a light green, a whole bunch (tee hee hee) of purple dots of different sizes in purple, and a few leaves in a darker green.  The kids used their glue sticks to attach the grapes and leaves.

Finally, we hung the Letter G on the wall, to join ABCDEFH & T.

The kids really do enjoy the Starfall activities!  It has worked as a great final review each day, and a quiet moment before free play.

We had Goldfish with our lunch and Garlic Green Beans with our Dinner.

I hope you enjoyed!  I look forward to sharing more!
