Happy Camper

Things haven’t been particularly easy this past year. Between two miscarriages and new jobs for both of us, James’ college education and our combined health problems, it’s been a bit overwhelming. We’re still living with family, and while it has its perks, it’d be super to have some space of our own. And that is where the good news comes in.

Saturday’s classifieds listed a truck with camper for sale for $5000.00. James gave the guy a call, to see if he really had a camper or if he meant camper shell. He meant big slide-in camper. The truck is a 1973 Chevy 1 ton Duelly Pickup with a 454 engine. The truck is in OK shape, needs new tires and has rust damage, but its mainly the means to the end. The camper is a 92 and in really good shape. We drove over to the guy’s house and after a test drive, did the paperwork and handed him the check. We now own our very first camper!

We spent most of Saturday and about all of Sunday working on the camper. We thoroughly cleaned it and made a (very long) list of things we needed before we could get going. We made two trips so far to Walmart, and made our carts behave like clown cars… so much stuff! Today I made the bed, finished lining the main cabinets with grippy stuff and re-stocking them, washing the blankets and towels and mentally preparing for the rest of the tasks. There is just so much to do!

James and I are very excited about this new endeavor. We’ve never owned a camper, nor have either of us ever assisted in the maintenance of any of our parents’. We learned this weekend how to start our furnace, stove, fridge and hot water heater. We’ll flush the system out (antifreeze in it right now) and load with water for our trip this weekend. Not sure where we’re goin, but we’re goin somewhere!
