Denim Travel Shoes – Tutorial Link

The part I dread most about air travel is going through security.  I’m excited that both of my kids can walk and follow basic instructions at this point, but taking off all of our shoes and whatnot turns into quite a chore… and then there is the re-dressing of everyone.  Sheesh!  I started thinking about which shoes would be the easiest to travel with on the kids.  My son’s water shoes are already too small (just bought them a month ago) and my daughter’s tennis shoes are velcro but still a little annoying.

Then… I stumbled upon this tutorial for DIY Baby Shoes by Pretty Prudent.    Luckily, my little munchkin is a HUGE fan of shoes, and was a great little sport about trying them on and letting me remeasure on her feet as I went along.  And… regardless of how well they turned out, she was excited about new shoes.  Tee hee hee… what a girly girl.  She doesn’t get it from me!

I added a little denim flower, held on by a KAM snap attached to the top layer, before adding the soles.  I think added the girly flair to some otherwise basic booties.

I also did what the author suggested she would do on future projects and added hot glue to the bottoms of the shoes for some traction.

I think they turned out pretty cute!  They aren’t dress shoes, I’m aware of that… but they are easy to get on and off, I won’t panic if we lose one, and I can throw them in the wash after the trip to get the travel germies off.  And… I’m hoping that they are sock enough to leave on through security.  If not, they at least are super easy to get back on.

Fun project!  And I already had everything on hand.  Hooray!
