Preschool Homeschool : The Letter M

We opted to homeschool instead of enrolling our son in standard Pre-K.  I am sharing with you some of the activities we did to learn about the letter M.  Whether you homeschool or not, these are short and sweet ways to reinforce letter learning.

Great books for “M Day” include:  Are You My Mother? No More Monsters for Me!If You Give a Moose a Muffin & Mouse Mess.  We also considered Mouse Paint and I am a Mouse.

Walphabet’s ABCs Song :  We always start with an ABC song.  It is something that they can get excited about, since they generally know the tune, and that everyone can enjoy.

We used  Lego Duplo Alphabet Mats from 123Homeschool4Me.com, again.  Both kids love it!

Sesame Street Letter M

Highlight-a-Letter by Babbling Abby.  I use these for my oldest (4), with the more complicated page (including tracing and printing space).  I have noticed a HUGE improvement in letter recognition and I think that this activity has a big part to play in that.

My youngest (2), colors on her own so that I can assist her brother with this.  She got Mouse (Animal Mechanicals) & Magic Schoolbus today.  Mike the Knight is another alternative.

We did an M is for Mouse craft, inspired by Our Country Road.  I cut slits to slide the pipe cleaners through and we used a generous glob of Elmers Glue to hold the nose on.  I purposefully made this craft small, since mice are small.  The kids liked it, but there wasn’t much for them to do.  I think they prefer the more complicated crafts.

Storybots Letter M

Starfall’s Letter M Activity : These great, flash, interactive activities are a wonderful and FREE resource, as well!  The kids really enjoy them!  The whole set is available in the Google Play store for Android,  Amazon App Store or iTunes!

We hung the Letter M on the wall.

Originally, we were going to have Macaroni and Cheese and make M&M cookies for snack.  The kids weren’t as excited about baking as I expected, so it didn’t happen that way.  Still, fun ideas.

I hope you enjoyed!  I look forward to sharing more!
