Preschool Homeschool : The Letter L
We opted to homeschool instead of enrolling our son in standard Pre-K. I am sharing with you some of the activities we did to learn about the letter L. Whether you homeschool or not, these are short and sweet ways to reinforce letter learning.
For breakfast, we had Lucky Charms. Lollipops were a fun treat. Lasagna would have been a fun project, but I’m the only one here who will eat it.
We read Look Out Leon!, On the Launch Pad, Lizzy the Lamb & The Big Book of Love.
Walphabet’s ABCs Song : We always start with an ABC song. It is something that they can get excited about, since they generally know the tune, and that everyone can enjoy.
I poured Pickling Salt into a cookie sheet and shook it a bit to make it flat. (You can use whatever salt you want… or sand… or whatever…) Then, I drew an example and the kids practiced “writing” the letter “L”. My son (4) especially loves this activity. My daughter (2) enjoys it too. Fun sensory play!
Highlight-a-Letter by Babbling Abby. I use these for my oldest (4), with the more complicated page (including tracing and printing space) on the first day and the less complicated one for review on the second.
My youngest (2), colors on her own so that I can assist her brother with this. She got Lili (My Big Big Friend) today. Lance (Voltron) & Larmina (Voltron) are other alternatives.
We did an L is for Lion craft that I found on Pinterest.
The kids had a harder time than I expected, making cuts around the lions’ manes.
Also… they complained that I made lions without feet, and that they look like kittens, not lions.
Everyone is a critic. *wink*
We also used Lego Duplo Alphabet Mats from 123Homeschool4Me.com. Both kids love it! I’m quickly realizing that my son is a VERY tactile learner, and these activities just ROCK!

The kids really do enjoy the Starfall activities! It has worked as a great final review each day.
